Company Profile

Novamont is a certified B Corporation and Benefit Corporation, as well as a global leader in biodegradable and compostable bioplastics and the development of bioproducts and biochemicals derived wholly or partially from renewable, plant-based sources.
Our industrial journey has its roots in the Montedison School of Material Science, where, nearly thirty years ago, a group of researchers began working on an ambitious vision to integrate chemistry, agriculture, and environmental sustainability. This vision is what we call "Living Chemistry for Quality of Life".
Novamont is now part of Versalis (Eni) and operates as a group comprising five production sites (four in Italy and one in Estonia), three research centres (including the Matrìca Research Centre in a joint venture with Versalis) and three technology hubs covering a wide range of expertise, from laboratory-scale experimentation to advanced pilot plants. We also have commercial offices in Germany, France, Spain and the United States, as well as a distribution network spanning more than 40 countries.
Over the years, we have industrialised thirteen proprietary technologies, four of which are unique, creating bioplastics and bioproducts through a multidisciplinary approach combining bioplastics, biotechnology, agronomy, organic chemistry and product ecology.

OUR COMMITMENT
We are committed to promoting the transition from a product-based to a systems-based economy, with a particular focus on enhancing local areas.
Through our circular approach to the bioeconomy, we are rethinking how materials and applications are produced, consumed and disposed of, and encouraging the development of virtuous local value chains.
Our bioplastics and bioproducts are biodegradable in various environments (compost, soil and water), helping to protect ecosystems and safeguard natural capital.
Our innovations stem from the circular bioeconomy model that we have pursued since our foundation. This model is built on the conversion of disused or uncompetitive industrial sites, continuous research and innovation to develop integrated agricultural supply chains, and the design of products intended to address specific environmental, economic and social challenges.

THE NOVAMONT MODEL AND THE PROTECTION OF ECOSYSTEMS
Our products are designed to protect two closely interconnected natural resources: soil and water.
Our compostable bioplastics divert organic waste from landfills and enable its transformation into compost, which is a valuable soil improver and an effective tool in the fight against soil degradation. Meanwhile, our soil-biodegradable bioplastics are designed for applications with a high risk of environmental dispersion.
Our crop protection products, biolubricants and cosmetic ingredients are formulated for rapid biodegradability, which significantly reduces the presence of pollutants in soil and water in sectors where environmental release is certain or highly likely.

OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
For greater economic, environmental and social justice, we measure our activities taking into account the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the most ambitious global action program ever adopted by the international community.
