Novamont supports compost pilot program in Fairfield - Connecticut

On July 20, 2109, the Sustainable Fairfield Task Force (SFTF) and Recycling Department and Commission has launched in Fairfield (Connecticut) a new composting program in order to cut down on food waste, which is a major source of the greenhouse gas methane, encouraging  residents to make the most of their food waste through either home composting or curbside pickups.
 
To promote at-home composting, SFTF member Mary Hogue and Fairfield resident Dan Martens, vice president of Novamont North American, will held seminars to demonstrate how to compost food scraps at home. In addition to these lessons, attendees will receive a free under-sink composting bin and biodegradable and compostable bags made of Mater-Bi, as well as a discount on a backyard bin.
 
The pilot program, that Novamont has helped to support, also aims to increase composting through a curbside pickup initiative for residents who cannot easily compost at home, and for those items not suitable for home composting.
 
Both initiatives were designed to decrease Fairfield’s food waste, as well as educate residents to turn their food waste into compost, a natural soil improver.
