30 students from Delft University of Technology visiting the industrial plant of MATER-BIOTECH
On July 17, MATER-BIOTECH, company of NOVAMONT group, hosted 30 students from Delft University of Technology, Netherlands's largest public university, which includes several courses, such us biotechnology.
The visit is part of the initiative organized within the University's PDEng postgraduate program, aimed at connecting students with industry in order to analyse the different production processes.
The visit represented for the students an important moment for training and debate, having the opportunity to see closely the world's first industrial plant able to produce butanediol (1.4 BDO) from sugar through a fermentative process.
Besides illustrating the peculiarities of the MATER-BIOTECH process, the plant manager Stefano Dessì presented the European project BIO-QED, co-ordinated by NOVAMONT and aimed at identifying new ways to produce biochemicals from renewable sources. MATER-BIOTECH, as partner of the project, will host a series of stakeholders throughout the year to present the company’s experience in the production of biobased chemical intermediates and to share the results and the effects of BIO-QED.
