BioInBio - Innovative Bioprocesses For Low Impact Bioproducts
The BioInBio project aims to study, optimize and scale up new bioprocesses for the production of bio-based, biodegradable and compostable products, for innovative applications to solve specific social and environmental problems. Started on April 1, 2021, BioInBio has a duration of 18 months and is funded by the Umbria Region under the "Axis I Call for supporting for projects of Industrial Research and Experimental Development POR FESR 2014-2020".

Starting from its proprietary technologies, Novamont, will develop and optimize formulations with a high renewable raw material content to validate three main types of bioproducts:
- biodegradable and compostable bioplastics to realize films for municipal solid waste collection, packaging and mulch films;
- biodegradable fluids from vegetable oils and from low-impact agricultural and industrial value chains;
- biodegradable plant protection products, whose new formulations will be validated on the field for weed control.
The project focuses on four interconnected objectives, in which the following activities will be carried out: :
OR1 - Formulation study,
OR2 - Scale-up and macro-sampling,
OR3 - Validation of bioproducts,
OR4 - Sustainability of products and processes. .
In line with the Regional Strategy for Research and Innovation for Intelligent Specialization (RIS3) of the Umbria Region, the project will contribute to the recognition of the Chemical Pole of Terni as a key player in the field of innovative materials from renewable sources, with positive impacts on the industrial value chain and significant effects on the local agricultural sector.
